This is how it all started. Tomatoes were abundant, bread was cheap. Bakers put the two together. Sailors made it their go-to meal for long voyages, hence the name (marinaro=sailor in Italian). The original Neapolitan street food.

LTHE SHOEMAKER’S PIE

It is said that shoemakers invented this recipe (scarparo = shoemaker in the Neapolitan dialect) out of a desire to eat something quick, tasty and nutritious while working. Also traditionally a pasta dish.
